Calculate discounts and final prices
Calculate a simple discount, apply two successive discounts, or compare the original price with the final price. Amounts are shown with up to two decimal places.
Simple discount: price × (1 − discount / 100). The amount saved is the difference between the original and final prices.
Example: a 25% discount on €100 brings the price to €75.
Successive discounts: apply each discount to the new price. They do not add up: 20% then 10% is an effective 28%.
Example: 20% off €100, followed by 10%, brings the price to €72. The effective saving is 28%.
When comparing two prices, the percentage is based on the original price. A lower final price is a discount; a higher one is an increase.
A change from €120 to €90 is a €30 difference: the final price is 25% lower than the original.
No. The second discount applies to the already reduced price. So 20% followed by 10% equals 28%, not 30%.
The tool identifies it as an increase and shows the difference instead of calling it savings.
